National Rx Take Back

The Medina County Drug Task Force, in partnership with the Brunswick Police Department, Wadsworth Police Department, Medina Township Police Department, and the Medina County Health Department, will once again participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

This nationwide initiative, coordinated across communities throughout the country, provides residents with a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications. Improper storage or disposal of medications can lead to prescription drug misuse, accidental poisoning, and environmental contamination. By offering secure collection sites staffed by trained personnel, the event helps remove potentially dangerous substances from homes and ensures they are destroyed in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Community members are encouraged to take part in this important effort by visiting us on April 25 at any one of our three collection sites located at the following locations:

Brunswick Police Department; 4095 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio
Wadsworth Police Department; 120 Maple Street, Wadsworth, Ohio
Medina County Health Department; 4800 Ledgewood Drive, Medina, Ohio

Residents may bring tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid prescription medications for safe disposal. Liquids and other accepted items may also be collected in accordance with event guidelines. All collected medications are handled securely and transported for proper destruction, with no personal information retained.

In addition to this one-day event, the Medina County D.U.M.P. Program (Dispose of Unwanted Medicine Properly) continues to provide residents with a safe, accessible, year-round solution. Funded by the Medina County Anti-Drug Levy, the program maintains twelve secure D.U.M.P. Box locations across the county. These drop boxes are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, allowing residents to dispose of medications at their convenience, no questions asked.

The D.U.M.P. Program plays a critical role in reducing access to unused prescription medications, which are often a primary source of misuse, particularly among youth. By offering consistent and convenient disposal options, the program supports prevention efforts, protects families, and reduces the likelihood of medications entering the water supply through improper disposal methods such as flushing.

Together, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and the Medina County D.U.M.P. Program demonstrate Medina County’s ongoing commitment to public safety, substance misuse prevention, and environmental stewardship. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these resources and play an active role in keeping their homes and their community safe.
