About Our Program
In April 2025, the Medina County Drug Task Force launched its Harm Reduction Program under the leadership of Harm Reduction Coordinator Agent Michael Barnhardt.
The Task Force recognizes that addressing substance use in our community requires more than enforcement alone. We understand that we cannot arrest, treat, or educate our way out of the drug problem—it must be a coordinated and comprehensive effort involving collaboration across multiple disciplines.
The Harm Reduction Program was developed to provide compassionate, practical support for individuals living with substance use disorders. The program connects individuals to treatment and recovery services when they are ready to take that step. Through strong partnerships with Alternative Paths, Hope Recovery Community, OhioGuidestone, Wadsworth Community Assessment and Treatment Services, and A New Day, the Task Force ensures that individuals have access to the resources and guidance needed to begin their journey toward recovery.
In addition, through collaboration with the Medina County Health Department, the Task Force distributes Naloxone, Fentanyl Test Strips, and other harm reduction materials aimed at reducing overdose deaths and promoting safer outcomes for those affected by substance use.
The Medina County Drug Task Force remains committed to a balanced approach that prioritizes public safety, health, and compassion, working together with community partners to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those impacted by substance use in Medina County.
Agent Michael Barnhardt brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his role as Harm Reduction Coordinator. With 29 years in law enforcement, including 25 years with the Medina County Drug Task Force, Agent Barnhardt has developed extensive knowledge of the challenges surrounding substance use in our community. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration with a Minor in Psychology and is a certified Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant in the State of Ohio, deepening his understanding of the recovery process. Over nearly three decades serving Medina County, Agent Barnhardt has built lasting professional relationships with law enforcement agencies, the courts, and numerous community organizations—relationships that continue to strengthen the collaborative foundation of this new initiative.
